Platform Beds and Feng Shui

Many Westerners see low slung platform beds and immediately think of Chinese design and the principles of feng shui. While the futons popular in Chinese homes do bear some resemblance, a Modern Platform Bed is not necessarily following the rules of good feng shui just by being lower to the ground. Feng Shui is an ancient art and science dedicated to encouraging a desirable flow of energy, health, luck and prosperity. It is a complicated balancing of elements with no rules set in stone. Feng means wind and shui means water, both of which are associated with good health in the Chinese culture. Thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune and band feng shui came to mean misfortune.

The bed is a major element in creating good feng shui in the home. Headboards are critical to protecting personal energy, or chi, and preventing it from weakening. Good feng shui dictates choosing a strong, heavy headboard. A solid, Wood Headboard is considered ideal. It will give you support and protection while you rest. May platform have tall headboards of wood and are thus good feng shui.

It is also important to keep the chi flowing around the room, both over and under the bed. Platform storage beds make for bad feng shui in this respect. If you already have a storage bed, use the drawers to store Linen Sheets and other light items and keep them well organized to restore the good chi to your bed area. There are many more facets to creating good feng shui in your bedroom. Consult your library or a professional to optimize the flow of your chi.
